Carbon Footprint & LCA
Among the various consulting services offered by EtaCarinae is support for the drafting of life cycle analyses (Life Cycle Assessment or LCA) and carbon footprint calculation (Carbon Footprint or CF) of products and companies.
The Carbon Footprint consists of producing an inventory of greenhouse gases and quantifying their volume emitted during the life cycle of a product and/or service or organization. This analysis is necessary in case one wants to know the contribution to climate change of a specific product or a particular production process or project. It is also possible to conduct organization CF, to have a realistic quantification of your company’s greenhouse gas emissions. Once calculated, the CF allows one to proceed with process improvement actions to reduce the amount of actual emissions from one’s company or production process. It is also possible to undertake a process of offsetting these emissions through GHG offsetting by purchasing carbon credits on the voluntary market.
EtaCarinae also carries out, Life Cycle Assessment comprehensive of products, projects or organizations. Life cycle analysis differs from CF in that the former does not focus only on greenhouse gas emissions, but includes within it a much broader range of indicators: this allows the company to know how much its production process contributes not only to climate change, but also to other polluting/altering processes in its three constituent phases: air, water and soil.
The CFs and LCAs carried out by EtaCarinae are based on the most accredited ISO and European standards (ISO 14040, ISO 14044, ISO 14064-1, ISO 14064-2, ISO 14067, PEF, etc.), and it is always possible to undertake a certification path by verification by a third party body according to the certification schemes according to the standards listed above.
Through LCA and CF certification, it is possible to access a number of communication tools that are very effective and popular at the moment.
These include, EPD (Environmental Product Footprint). This is an environmental product declaration based on a certified product CF or LCA, with which robust, effective and easily understood B2B or B2C communication can be provided.
This statement allows the environmental performance of the products or organization to be communicated to third parties based on an analysis certified by a third party, and therefore extremely reliable.
